BECOMING A CHRISTIAN

In a recent meeting of our FBC Deacon Board, we chatted about a person who had attended our church several years ago. This person was intimately involved with our youth program.

When the person returned to our church for a brief visit, the subject about being a Christian came up. The now twenty-something person said, “I never committed my life to Christ, and I don’t know how one goes about becoming a Christian.”

In the light of the above, we want to be direct and clear in our witness. Let me share about how a person sitting in our pews on any given Sunday – or at any time or place - can become a Christian. One can become a true believer by simply saying an honest and sincere Yes in one’s heart to the statements below:

• I am a child of the Heavenly Father who created the universe.

• God governs the universe with His law. One law is to ac-
knowledge Him.  Another law is to love the Lord and all His
people.  The Lord also asks us to trust Him.

• I am broken.  I sin.  I cannot be righteous in God’s sight by my
  own efforts.

• God sent His Son into this world as divine revelation for my
  spiritual well being and salvation.

• God’s grace and truth is readily available.

• Jesus is now reaching out to me personally.  His desire is for
me to receive Him by faith - as my Lord and my God.

• My single concern in becoming a Christian is to “trust and
  obey.”

• If I am truly saved, the Lord will mold me, fill me, and use me
in building a  better life for myself.

• I know the Lord will also help me to build a better life for
others; and that  He will also send me forth to help
build His
church, which is the kingdom of truth and righteousness.

• I know that if I receive Jesus, He will bless me with His
presence and I will  live securely with Him each day and
  throughout all eternity.
