JAMES W. KING BI-ANNUAL MISSIONS SCHOLARSHIP

On Sunday, July 30, 2006, the First Baptist Church of Red Bank (“FBCRB”) approved the creation of the James W. King Bi-Annual Missions Scholarship.  This Scholarship was created to assist persons with a heart and desire to serve others for the glory of God.   FBCRB recognizes that many of those who are called to serve in the field of missions have the heart and desire to serve, but may not have the means or financial resources.  Accordingly, by approving the Scholarship, FBCRB gives affirmation and support to FBCRB attendees who are responding to a “call” to missions work. The following Qualifications and Guidelines apply:

Qualifications:

1. A personal relationship with Jesus Christ evidenced by their Christian walk and signature on the applications Statement of Faith

2. A heart and desire to serve others all for the glory of God

3. At least twenty-one (21) years of age

4. The applicant’s designated mission’s trip must be with a reputable missions group

5. Applicant must be a regular attendee of FBCRB

6. Applicant must timely complete and submit the Missions Scholarship Application prior to the MC’s monthly meeting in either January or July. The mission’s trip departure date should not be earlier than that meeting except in exceptional circumstances

7. Applicant must submit at least one reference and be recommended by a FBCRB member;

8. Applicant must sign the Waiver of Liability form

9. Financial need is not mandatory but will be strongly considered

10. Applicant must attempt to raise money for the trip and deduct the amount of money raised from the amount awarded.

11. After the Applicant’s trip has concluded, the Applicant must agree to give a report to the MC at its next monthly meeting and give the congregation of FBCRB a report from the pulpit

Guidelines:

The Missions Committee (“MC”) may award scholarships to applicants by

majority vote twice per year; first when the MC meets each January and again when the MC meets in July.

● Up to $5,000.00 can be awarded each six month period.

● Applicant(s) need not request the entire $5,000.00.

● Two or more applicants may apply for the same scholarship and agree to split the $5,000.00 or other amount requested below $5,000.00.

● If less than $5,000.00 is awarded in either six month period, the unused portion shall be returned to the FBCRB Budget.

If the MC desires to award more then $5,000.00 in any six month period it must petition the Church Council for additional funds.

● By majority vote, the MC shall have wide discretion on how to apportion the money and shall take into consideration a number of factors, including but not limited to:

  1. the number of applicants
  2. the amount requested (the MC can award less than the requested amount)
  3. the duration and destination of the trip
  4. the financial need of the applicant
  5. the applicant’s motivation and desire to serve
  6. the reputation of the mission’s group sponsoring the trip
  7. any other criteria the MC deems necessary
