Joe Atkins is a long-time FBC member. Many years ago, an FBC mission group visited a small and very poor nation called Haiti. Haiti is located about 120 miles off the Florida coast.
Joe was taken aback on his trip when he saw the profound needs of the people living there. Since his first visit, Joe has returned about 25 times. On each visit, he takes material goods for poor villagers, i.e., shoes, eye glasses, medicine, etc. He also brings a bundle of money to support a noontime meal program for the school children. Finally, Joe brings encouragement, friendship, prayers, and a spiritual message for the hearts of these poor Haitian children and families.
Joe Atkins’ immediate goal is to dig a well for drinking water in the village. His plans also include building a new cinder-block school for the village children. Bricks are now being prepared.
Until recently, Joe’s ministry was closely coordinated with Aslan – a wonderful local organization working with troubled youth in Red Bank – which also has a mission in Haiti. This special relationship is ongoing, but Joe’s mission is now separate from Aslan and empowered with legal status (incorporation) and a new revitalized vision.
