Today’s world is obviously different than in the early part of the 20th Century. For instance, people used to attend church in their immediate neighborhood. Some FBC people still live nearby, but most people live in the suburbs and drive to Red Bank. Also, many people come to FBC every Sunday but other people come when they are in town or when they can. Church life is different today also in the fact that many members are not committed to any one church. Instead, many folk tend to move from church to church. Finally, it must be said that church folk today seem to be excessively busy with work, travel, recreation, and family. They have less discretionary time.
All of the above being true, there is a need for us to show concern for our fellow Christians. Indeed, there is a greater need today, not less, for us to try to get to know people personally and to share mutual concern. In a word, we want to be involved in Shepherding people and offering nurture for their souls.
Deacons have traditionally been tasked with Shepherding. Their job is to know our Members and to offer support where needed. But the task is HUGE. Hence, additional people are needed to augment the Deacon’s Shepherding efforts. Deacon Russ Jones is leading a Committee of Church Members who are also eager to make personal contact with our Fellow Members and Friends. If you would like to be involved in this, or conversely, if you feel a need to be contacted, please make your request known to Deacon Jones.
